The pungent atmosphere of uncertainty,the gnashing and gnawing of teeth and the undertones of frustration.I applaud my fellow human beings for finally griping the reality and sublimation of how terribly controlled we are…Emotionally, physically, and spiritually. For a long while, we lived with this onset that crime is more painful when ethnicity is involved. But for how long could we ignore the fact that pain is mutual to all, whenever sought, unsought or ignored it mares all people, scars everyone. It was a vicious cycle, the tedious inevitably, that soon it will all calm down and people will return to normal, ignoring the failing systems around us. We liked to live in our bubbles of existence because the reality of everything around us seemed too painful least we all go crazy. We kept telling ourselves that justice will come justice will be served, only to be ripped from under us and cast upon our tables like the truth that it is. Flaring and glaring right into our faces, poking at us and our foundations.

 You see, it enrages us so much that all we hold dearly as sworn truth is utterly destroyed by deliberate infringement by people who are supposed to protect us! It affects us more because of the hope that we have;  hope in the future that one day all wrongs will  be made whole, and all it takes is one  incident to send the masses flaring with hate…we cast our own apocalypse. Yet we hope that they that shall not be named,  will solve our problems. WE solve them by our own intellect, WE scowre the  resources necessary to bring a paradigm shift, We alienate those who  do not consider with our politically leanings, and WE also give unbridled compassion when we feel everyone’s pain…….We are Our Apocalypse.

To think apocalyptically is not to give  up on ourselves, but only to give up on the self centered egoism of those who steer us away from our fate of glory and honour .Our hope for a decent future any hope for even the idea of a future depends on our ability to tell  stories not of how humans have ruled the world but how we can live in the world. The villains must give way to the apocalyptic.The central story of power;dynamic, natural and inevitable must give way to stories of dignity, solidarity and equality.
We must resist not only the cruelty of repression but the seduction of comfort. The songs we sing matter at least as  much as the machines we build. Power always assumes it can control. Our task is to resist that control. Our national anthem a reminder, of the latent power of our stories.

Oh lift high the banner, the flag of Zimbabwe

The symbol of freedom proclaiming victory;

We praise our heroes’ sacrifice,

And vow to keep our land from foes;

And may the Almighty protect and bless our land.

Oh lovely Zimbabwe, so wondrously adorned

With mountains, and rivers cascading, flowing free;

May rain abound, and fertile fields;

May we be fed, our labour blessed;

And may the Almighty protect and bless our land.

Oh God, we beseech Thee to bless our native land;

The land of our fathers bestowed upon us all;

From Zambezi to Limpopo

May leaders be exemplary;

And may the Almighty protect and bless our landland
Oh lift high the banner, the flag of Zimbabwe

The symbol of freedom proclaiming victory;

We praise our heroes’ sacrifice,

And vow to keep our land from foes;

And may the Almighty protect and bless our land.

Oh lovely Zimbabwe, so wondrously adorned

With mountains, and rivers cascading, flowing free;

May rain abound, and fertile fields;

May we be fed, our labour blessed;

And may the Almighty protect and bless our land.

Oh God, we beseech Thee to bless our native land;

The land of our fathers bestowed upon us all;

From Zambezi to Limpopo

May leaders be exemplary;

And may the Almighty protect and bless our landland

This should be the source of our songs.

“Never let Babylon get you down! Rise up Zimbabwe!”
